How to Turn Your Resume Into a Sales Letter By Roderick Low

Sending resumes are like sending sales letter....There are many considerations. First, is your CV attractive enough? Not the decoration, but the words you use. Can they sell you? That you have to test and compare by sending different copies to different companies. Here is what you can do.

1) Send to 10 companies one set of resume. Then modify and send to another 10 companies with a changed in body or headline.

The reason is simple. If the 1st resume don't work, what makes you think the same resume will work on the next 10 companies?

So you need to modify and resend, that way, you can know what works what don't work.

2) Re-read your own CV and ask yourself, would you hire you? Because here is the secret, you are a product in the eye of the company....and the no.1 reason they hire you is...'What can you do for the company'. Sell your achievements, your results in your ex-company (benefits) and not qualifications, skills, or personalities (features). They are important, but what can you do is the most important question for them. So make sure you empathizes it on your resume.

Can you double up as a translator for your dialect to English? from English to German, French or Japanese or visa versa? If you can, is it emphasize on your resume? If not, maybe you should. That is your USP, your advantage....

3) Follow up. Most candidates have the same problem as you do. They wait, and wondering if the resume got opened. A good sales person never waits. They send a sales letter and then follow up, just to make sure the person read it. And if they did not, you can either request to send another copy or tell them briefly what is on your resume. That is called Impression.

You show alot just by following up. You show enthusiasm, sincerity and responsibility. And all you need to do? One phone call.

4) Lastly, this is a no brainer but most people usually overlooked it. Fish where the big fishes are....Meaning to say that. Look at your strength, and then ask yourself, which company need my strength and look for the company.

For example, you are fluent in both German and English. There is a company that needs German nationals who can translate to English....do you think you have a better chance of getting that job?

So look for the kind of companies that are looking for you, and let them know you exist. Thats it!

It may sound like hard work, but trust me, starting a business is worse than finding a job. If you don't learn how to sell yourself well, you cant sell anything. (I learn this phrase from a millionaire).

Lastly, do understand you have already started working. You are working for yourself. So don't be discourage if things don't go right initially, it never does. But knowing what you did wrong make all the difference between getting a job and hoping to get a job.

Inspired by a personal encounter with a millionaire while working as a retail sales assistant five years ago, he transform his own life from being a person who lack of purpose in life into someone who have big dreams ahead.

Currently pursing a course in NLP, he is looking forward to one day shared the platform with distinguished speakers around the world. Roderick intend to share the stories, techniques and experiences that have impact his life on his personal blog.
